30 Weeks

Update:
I guess it is time for a new photo. I am now 30 weeks and growing. The worst thing right now are my legs at night, my muscles are crazy and it seems that a warm bath is the only thing that will settle them down so I can sleep. The best part is how much the baby moves. For those who have not been pregnant yet it is strange but so neat. It is weird to watch my stomach move when she kicks or just the strange sensation of her moving around. Often when I am at my desk at work and my stomach presses against it she kicks. Almost as though it is in her way, invading what little space she has. It has been a lot of fun to watch Troy's reactions when he can feel her press very hard against my stomach and then move it up a long my stomach. Obviously it is hard to describe but it is just amazing.

Recent Project:
I decided I would like to make a baby blanket. So, I went to JoAnn Fabric's, picked out what I liked and told the lady what I wanted to do. She helped me figure out how much fabric I needed and the size of the squares. Once I got home and started cutting the squares and laid them out I realized the blanket was going to cover my bed. A lot bigger then I had imagined the size the baby blanket should be. I did not want to waste all the squares I cut so, I made 3 baby blankets, yes not 1 but 3. I am just finishing on the last one, thank the lord. I do not want to think about another blanket for a long time. Hopefully she still comes out as a girl because if not well no blankets for him. They are not at all perfect but I am proud of myself.

Question:
For all you ladies, is a baby bedding set a waste of money? Yes, it is fun but you are not suppose to even use the blanket that comes with it on the baby and I recently was told that once the baby is moving in anyway you are suppose to remove the bumper. So, I would love to hear your thoughts on this or you can just vote. I figured I could get more opinions this way.

You are SOOOO cute! I do think the bedding sets are a waste of $$, I got mine from Walmart.com for 1/3rd the cost of babies r us, and it's been through 2 boys now, so I'm ok with it. $50 or more seems like a lot when you can find stuff separetly for a fraction of the cost. BTW-3 blankets may come in handy if she attaches and decided she needs a lovie to sleep with! Beth :)

Alright so I posted 2 pictures of the blankets...yes
I know there is a lot of white but I need something between the color. I know they will get dirty.

Candace, I am sooooo impressed with your beautiful blankets!!!! Great job! (And thanks Kristen ~ I was dying to see the blankets too!!) My opinion on the bedding set is that it is a lot of fun to have a cute baby room that you enjoy. It's probably not necessary, but I always thought it was important. Beth's right, there are inexpensive ways to get something nice. My mom made Caleb's and it turned out really cute. We even made a matching border. As far as the bumper pads...I left mine on & made sure they were tied securely. My thought was that they would hurt their little heads bumping in to the side of the crib. They've all been just fine with the pads. :) And the quilt that comes with it makes a really nice wall hanging.
BTW ~ Love your new blog design.

Okay so here's my two cents worth:)
I agree with the other ladies in that it is too expensive and can be done more cheaply.
What I did:
registered for what I liked, didn't get it, but I got some of the other things like the curtain, wall hangings, a blanket... then I went to wallmart (I think) and got a bumper seperate that was neutral. I also agree that they are okay up to a certain age, when they can stan up in the crib and use them to help get out, not so good. :)
there are lots of bumper options at babiesrus that are not part of a bedding set.
Anyway, have fun with it, you may spend a lot of time in there, so you do want to enjoy it!
I love the picture too by the way, you look so great!
bty, I am thrilled you are having a girl, Ella needs some girlfriends!
love to you!

Ummmm...I would say you should go with the cheaper as well...babies just get them dirty anyway. At least mine does. I can't keep the sheets or anything else clean. The only difference is he's 33. :) I can't really comment on the real deal, but the other ladies sound quite educated and experienced and I would trust them anyday! LOVE THE QUILTS! You may someday be enlisted to make more! :)

bumpers are also nice for little hands and feet that can get stuck in the slats of the crib while they're sleeping...ouch! (or maybe that's just our little guy...)

Nice blankets! I agree that if the baby attatches to it as a "lovey" you'll be glad to have 3.

I never had a matching bedding set for any of my kids, actually only 1 of my 3 even used a crib (the other two slept in a pack-n-play), and he did just fine with no "bumper". I never really saw the point at the time, esp since you can't use most of it because of safety concerns. But now when I walk thru BabiesRUs or someplace I kinda feel bad that I "never gave my babies anything nice" like that. They actually didn't even get their own room for me to decorate as a nursery. But then I tell myself that they don't know the difference and there are other ways I can "give them something nice." So, my verdict is: baby bedding sets are NOT necessary at all (as are many or even most baby items), but if you want to spend the $$ and have it as a keepsake, it's a nice sentimental thing to do and it sounds so fun to decorate and coordinate.

PS- sorry about the leg cramps. To this day I stretch my feet the opposite way because of experiencing that :)

Very cute blankets!
I agree with Kim on the bedding sets. If you didn't get one that you registered for, check the clearance at WalMart (or such store)--that's where I got the animal one for Jacob for only $20! I don't see a safety concern with bumper pads, esp. if you tie them tightly. I think it's more of a concern NOT to have them b/c my kids were always moving around in there and end up with their heads squished against the top of the crib. Can't imagine it'd be very comfortable to do that w/out a bumper pad!
Do you have the nursery decorated yet? We need to see pictures of that too! :)
